FURS advises taxpayers who have not yet notified the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia of an open payment account abroad to do so as soon as possible. If they do it themselves, even before the tax authority gets hold of the information about their account abroad, they will be able to avoid punishment.<\/p>\n

Information about financial accounts of banks and savings banks, such as payment accounts (TRR), deposit accounts, trust accounts, etc. (hereinafter: financial accounts) that Slovenian residents have opened abroad, the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia will start receiving next year, based on the automatic exchange of information, from the majority of countries that have joined the data exchange.<\/p>\n

Starting next year, the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia will receive data on financial accounts opened abroad by residents of the Republic of Slovenia based on automatic information exchange. This means that it will receive information on all financial accounts (including information on the account balance or account value) that residents of the Republic of Slovenia have opened abroad. In the case of any deposit account (business, checking, savings, etc.), she will also receive information on the total gross amount of interest paid and credited to the financial account during the calendar year. In accordance with the Financial Administration Act, every taxpayer who has a payment account opened abroad must report it to the financial office within eight days of opening it. The list of financial offices with contact information is published on the website<\/a>. If he fails to do so, a fine of 200 to 1,200 EUR is at risk for a natural person, from 800 to 10,000 EUR for a natural person performing an activity, and from 1,200 to 30,000 EUR for a legal person. This is merely a fine related to an undeclared payment account from abroad. If other tax irregularities have occurred on the basis of funds from an undeclared payment account or other financial accounts (e.g. undeclared interest that should have been declared and taxed in Slovenia), additional fines are at risk. So it depends on the specific case.<\/p>\n

The Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia advises all taxpayers who have not yet notified an open payment account abroad to do so as soon as possible.
