The minimum wage for full-time work as of January 1, 2015, is 790.73 euros.
In accordance with the Minimum Wage Act, the minimum wage amount is adjusted at least once a year based on the growth of the cost of living. The adjustment of the minimum wage uses the official data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia on the year-on-year growth of the cost of living in December of the previous year compared to December of the year before that. The law also specifies other criteria that can be considered in determining the minimum wage, including wage movements, economic conditions or growth, and employment trends. The past practice has been that the minimum wage, determined based on these criteria, was adjusted annually only in line with the growth of the cost of living, as specified in Article 5 of the law. The amount of the minimum wage is determined by the Minister responsible for labor, after prior consultation with social partners.
The newly determined amount applies to work performed from January 1 onwards. Official data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia indicates that the growth of the cost of living in December 2014 compared to December 2013 was 0.2%.
In a correspondence session of the Economic and Social Council, a resolution was adopted to adjust the minimum wage, which was set at 789.15 euros for 2014, with the identified 0.2% growth in the cost of living, so as of January 1, 2015, it amounts to 790.73 euros.
This means that even after the adjustment, the minimum wage does not reach the currently minimum base for social security contributions, which is 792.05 EUR. This is expected to be adjusted for payments in March, as the new average salary for 2014 is scheduled to be published on February 16, 2015.
